DSCC signs MoU with UNICEF

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in association with UNICEF will provide basic services like health, nutrition, education, child protection, water and sanitation to 0.1 million children in the city’s slum areas.
Children of 0-18 age in zone 4 of the south city corporation will come under the pilot programme.
To this effect, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between DSCC and UNICEF at the DSCC conference room on Thursday.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khan Mohammad Bilal and UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh Edouard Beigbeder signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.
Senior officials of DSCC and UNICEF Bangladesh were also present at the signing ceremony.
UNICEF which works for the betterment of children globally has a plan to expand its pilot programme to five other city corporations, out of eleven, by 2020.
With direct help from DSCC, UNICEF also aims to help about one million left-out children in selected poor communities.
Mr Bilal, who chaired the signing ceremony, said DSCC and UNICEF would work together to achieve the goals of the project.
Mr Beigbeder said, “UNICEF has already extended support to the government of Bangladesh in advancing urban development and ensuring basic services to help improve living standard of urban children.”
“The programmes have already been piloted in poor communities of five city corporations covering over 300,000 left-out urban children. Partnership with DSCC is the sixth one.”
Initially, zone-4 of DSCC will pilot social services package and implement strategies for the urban poor communities. This will help develop a sustainable model for city corporations towards realisation of rights of children and their families by ensuring their access to basic services.
