Bangladesh ready for first ever International Fleet Review to bolster naval diplomacy

For the first time, Bangladesh is going to launch a four-day International Fleet Review (IFR) on Tuesday on the Bay of Bengal in Cox’s Bazar to bolster naval diplomacy.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the fleet review, with the participation of members of navies and coast guards of 28 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Korea, Indonesia, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

Bangladesh Navy official said: “IFR 2022, organized by Bangladesh Navy, intends to promote goodwill, strengthen cooperation, and showcase Bangladesh Navy’s organizational capabilities,”

Focusing on the first-ever IFR Navy officials expected this fleet review will open an opportunity for Bangladesh Navy to interact with other countries’ navies in a bid to boost maritime safety, promote tourism, and naval diplomacy.

When visiting the venue this correspondent observed Navy ships from several countries already anchored in the Bay of Bengal.

The Inani Beach has been decorated with colourful flags, festoons and banners as this international event includes a parade, glimpses of the activities of special forces, and the fleet review, according to navy officials.

According to a statement from the Navy, IFR 2022 will also serve as an ideal platform for the world’s navies to showcase their prowess, naval diplomacy, goodwill, and cooperation in an international arena.

Before this international fleet, Bangladesh Navy conducted the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium Multilateral Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (IMMSAREX) 2017 from November 26 to 29 in 2017 at Cox’s Bazar.

Capitalizing on this experience Bangladesh Navy organized IFR 2022 to promote goodwill, strengthen cooperation and showcase Bangladesh Navy’s organizational capabilities.

To commemorate this historic event, over 55 friendly nations have been invited to join the celebration with their naval ships and representatives.

The chiefs of navies have been invited along with their spouse and staff officers.
