Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday said the government has taken initiatives to construct 400 Mujib Killas, 220 cyclone shelter centers and 430 shelter centers for flood affected people, reports BSS. “The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has already constructed 255 shelter centers for flood affected people and 100 cyclone shelter centers…The ministry has also taken initiatives to construct 400 Mujib Killas, 220 cyclone centers and 430 centers for flood affected people,” he said.
The minister was speaking at a function on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of a shelter center at Mohanpur Ali Ahmed Mian Bahumukhi High School ground at Matlab upazila in Chandpur district. Maya said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to reduce the death rate in natural disasters to single digit.
He hoped that the government would be able to construct all shelter centers within the timeframe. Additional Secretary of the ministry Golam Mostafa, Department of Disaster Management Director General Md Riaz Ahmed, Project Director Abdus Salam and Matlab Uttar Upazila Chairman Manjur Ahmed Manju, among others, were present at the function.
