T-Aman paddy plants at different areas under the district are growing well, signaling an excellent yield of the crop this year.
Presently, the Aman cultivators of the region are in a joyous mood as they have been witnessing a congenial weather condition and better growth of paddy plants, which made them optimistic about attaining good production of their produce this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rangpur, sources said farmers of eight upazilas under the district cultivated Aman on around 1,59,626 hectares of land this season with the expectation to get good yield and fair price of their produce.
Sources said that in the beginning, the cultivation of T-Aman paddy was seriously hampered in some areas under Gangachara, Pirgachha and Kawnia upazila due to flood water. Subsequently, most of the farmers of the affected areas managed to overcome the adverse circumstances.
Farmers had to struggle a lot in mid-season as well due to a drought like situation that had been prevailing in the region for over three weeks. But the recent rainfall changed the scenario and also helped the farmers become hopeful again about achieving a bumper production of the crop.
Shahrul Huda (45), a farmer at vandabari village in Pirganj Upazila told The Financial Express that he cultivated Aman on one acre of land during this season and the condition of its growth is excellent. Smooth supply of water and agri-inputs such as fertilisers and pesticides has boosted its cultivation, he also said.
He also urged the government to take necessary steps so that the growers can get satisfactory price of their produce.
The commercial banks including RAKUB also disbursed soft loan to the poor and the marginal farmers during the current season to help them bring more cultivable land under its cultivation, sources said.
DAE official sources said adequate water supply, agri-inputs and conducive weather condition are enhancing Aman farming in the region.
