Khulna: With only two weeks left for Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, sales have gone up in almost all markets in the industrial city.
To avoid the last moment rush, hundreds of people have been thronging to different markets of the city for Eid shopping everyday.
Most of the city markets, including Borobazar Market, Khanjahan Ali Hawkers Market, Moshiur Rahman Market, Nixon Market, KDA New Market, Khulna Shopping Mall, Chitrali Market and Daulatpur Super Market, are humming with Eid shopping crowd.
The shopping places have worn festive looks with rushing men, women, girls, boys, students, youths and adolescents for buying items of own choice in the city.
Anwar Azim, a shop owner at KDA New Market, said shop owners have already stockpiled a huge quantity of goods in their outlets targeting the biggest festival.
The buyers, mostly from middle class, are found moving from shop to shop at city’s Clay Road’s markets asking prices of goods. Small shops are found more crowded than the big shopping malls. Buyers in large number are crowding there.
Expecting a huge inflow of buyers this year, Mamun Hossain, owner of Mamun Cloth Store at Bporobazar Market, said, “My store is packed with Eid shoppers”.
Arifa Zaman, a student of Khulna University, said prices of lady’s, baby’s and gent’s wears are almost doubled this year.
Shoppers are also crowding readymade garment and silk shops. The shops are flooded with garments and silk clothes, for men, women and children with the latest designs, said Golam Mostofa Jhantu, owner of Rubel garments shop at Nixon Market in the city.
The shopkeepers are seemingly happy with their sale, he added.
