This budget likely to be 400 times more than the first

Within a span of 45 years of the independence of the country the size of the 2016-17 national budget is likely to be 400 times more than the country’s first budget in 1972.
The 1972-73 fiscal year budget was Tk 786 crore, while the upcoming budget is likely to be Tk 340,735 crore.
Finance Ministry sources said the first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed announced the first budget in the history of the nation. He also announced first three budgets consecutively.
They said Former Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman announced the highest 12 national budgets in Parliament. The current Finance Minister AHM Muhith stands second by announcing nine budgets including the upcoming budget.
Another former Finance Minister Shah ASM Kibria secures the third position by announcing six budgets. Former president Ziaur Rahman announced three budgets as the military ruler.
Besides, Dr Azizur Rahman, Dr MN Huda, Major General (Retd) Munim, M Sayeduzzaman and Dr Wahidul Haque announced budgets in the parliament. Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam also announced budgets as an adviser of caretaker government.
