Papaya growers get fair market rate in Tangail

Papaya growers of the district are happy over the market price of the crop.

Sources said the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail arranged training sessions for the farmers and provided necessary agri-inputs and suggestion on papaya cultivation.

Papaya is an important vegetable item and it can be cultivated in all seasons. It is also highly profitable, said Rasmat Miah, a farmes of east Tarutia under Sadar Upazila.

According to the DAE, a total of 839 hectares of land have been brought under papaya cultivation in the twelve upazilas of the district this season.

Shariful Islam, sub-assistant of DAE, Tangail, said in the recent year farmers of the area are showing interest in cultivating papaya because the production cost of it is lower than other crops and in high demand.

1.0 kg of papaya is now being selling in the local market at Tk 25 to Tk 35, sources added.
