More school students to get scholarships at increased rates

Government would, under a recent decision, provide more scholarships at enhanced rates to meritorious students on completion of their primary, secondary and higher secondary school certificate and equivalent exams beginning this year.
The scholarships would be given on the basis of performance in the primary completion, junior secondary, secondary and higher secondary school certificate examinations.
The talent pool and the general scholarships would be given to increased number of students, primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman and education ministry joint secretary AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan told New Age.
Until the last year, 1,32,200 students of schools and madrassahs received the scholarships in the two categories.
Now on onwards 1,98,300 students would be given the scholarships.
Earlier this month the government adopted the guidelines for providing the scholarships at the enhanced rates.
From this year 82,500 students on primary education completion exam would get their scholarships at the enhanced rates, up from 55,000 pupils.
On completion of the primary madrassah completion exam 22,500 students would be given the scholarships now onwards up from 15,000.
Talent pool scholarship for primary school and madrassah student has been increased to Tk 300 per month from Tk 200.
General scholarship for primary school and madrassah student has been enhanced to Tk 225 per month from Tk 150. Students get the talent pool and the general scholarships for three years.
Their annual scholarship has also been increased to Tk 225 from Tk 150.
The number of students who would get the talent pool and the general scholarships on completion of their junior school certificate and the equivalent madraash exams has been increased to 55,200 from 36,800.
The rate of talent pool scholarship on completion of JSC and equivalent exams has been raised to Tk 450 from Tk 300 per month. The general scholarship for students of this level has been increased to Tk 300 from Tk 200 per month.
The annualized scholarship for the talent-pool scholarship recipients has been raised to Tk 560 from Tk 375.
The annual scholarship in the other category has been increased to Tk 350 from Tk 225.
This year onwards 26,850 students on completion of the SSC and equivalent exams would be given talent-pool and general scholarships, up from 17,900 students.
On completion of the HSC and equivalent exams 11,250 pupils would be given talent-pool and general scholarship from this year onwards up from 7,500 students.
The rates of monthly and the annualized scholarships in both the categories have also been increased, said officials.
