200MW solar park at Trishal planned

The government is going to set up a 200MW capacity solar park at Trishal in Mymensingh under the Quick Power and Energy Supply Act-2010, revised in 2015. The estimated cost of the project is US$400 million, said a top Power Division official.
"We received a proposal from Singapore-based Sun Addison Energy Holding Pvt Ltd to set up this park," Power Secretary Monowar Islam told the Daily Observer
A technical evaluation committee examined the pros and cons of the proposal the Singaporean firm submitted last month and placed a positive report to the Power Ministry on March 8.
This committee went through the technical, financial and structural issues of the proposal.
The project, which is to set up on 1000 acres of land, would take at least 18 months to complete. According to another official, the government will buy power at 19 cent a unit.
Additionally, $5000 has to be paid as security money per mega watt.
The Singaporean company will spend for building a  transmission line connecting it with the national grid.
An official at the Power Development Board said as tariff is so high, PDB would need more Tk 324 crore as subsidy per year.
