Gas supply from new layer of Kailashtila begins

Sylhet, Sept 13: Gas supply from the newfound layer at a well of Kailashtila gas field in Golapganj upazila to the national grid began on Thursday. General Manager of Sylhet Gas Field Khawaza Ahmed said the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex), which discovered the layer at well-4 of the gas field last month, started the supply at 3 pm. He said a total of 22 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD) will be supplied to the national grid from the new layer.
Khawaza further said about 200 barrels of condensed oil will also be available every day and motor oil could be extracted by refining that.
Bapex found the new gas layer on August 19 through conducting a 3D-seismic survey within a 190-square kilometre radius and work-over at the well.
The gas layer lies at a depth in between 2,722 and 2,729 metres.
Bapex officials expect that there is a reserve of 204 billion cubic feet of gas at the
new layer with a pressure of 3,850 PSI (pounds per square inch).
